COMPETITION HUB

At the Oasis Otters Swimming club, we have developed a structured training program that aligns with our young swimmers' competition pathway.

Learn to Swim Program Completion

Once children complete their Learn to Swim program, they are ready to enter into our Development Squad. They will be taught the proper techniques to swim competitively and start participating in our monthly in-house Mini Meet competitions, and Distance Tests. These results will be logged into our club system and will be used to continually evaluate their training progress and fitness level.

When they are ready, coaches will inform their parents to enter into targeted external Novice Meets. Swimmers will continue to apply and improve their racing skills in competitions suitable to their level. Our club also hosts the annual Twilight Encourage Meet in May each year. This serves as the starting point of their competition pathway.

Beside these novice level encouragement meets, there are two important Junior competitions set up by District and State; Metro Junior District Competition held in November each year, and Metro All Junior held in April each year.

1. Metro Junior District Competition

The Metro Junior District Competition is open to registered swimmers age 8 years old to 12 years old. Swimmers will compete at their District selection trial meet first. Swimmers that finish top 10 in their event will be selected to represent the District Team to compete at the State Metro Junior Competition Final in November.

2. The Metro All Junior

The Metro All Junior is open to all registered and unregistered swimmers aged 11 years old and under 16 years old. All swimmers first compete at the District Selection Trial meet. Swimmers that finish top 10 in their event will be selected to represent the District Team to compete at the State Metro All Junior Semi Final. The Metro All Junior Semi Final will have all top 10 swimmers from all districts competing against each other to find the final top 10 fastest swimmers in each event. These top 10 swimmers for each event compete for medals at the Metro All Junior Final.

Junior Squad and Above

When swimmers have achieved a certain swimming standard (technique and fitness), coaches will request they participate in targeted official qualifying meets. These qualify meets are standard competitions following FINA rules. This provides swimmers an opportunity to gain experience with formal swimming competitions. They compete for State Qualify Times, for various State Championships.

When they achieved designated times they are eligible to compete at the following Championships:

1. Victorian Short Course Age Championships

2. Victorian Long Course Age Championships

3. Victorian Open Championships

4. Victorian Sprint Championships

State Squad and Above

When they have achieved times that qualify for Age National level, they will be able to compete at Australian Age Championships.

For the swimmers that qualify for Open National Time and are swimming at an elite level, they will be eligible to participate in the Australian Open Championships, for their chance to qualify for international competitions.

Speed Charts

Speed Charts are a great tool to motivate swimmers when they are doing race pace training / speed sets.

Use the times your Coach has provided you through the use of our electronic timing system (AutoCoach) and compare your progress against these charts.

The speed charts provided below are sourced from Swimming Australia and the QAS for you to use.
